The commander-in-chief has spoken: Donald Trump “doesn’t know much about foreign policy, or nuclear policy…or the world generally.”

That was how President Barack Obama summed up the GOP front-runner’s recent statements on nuclear weapons while speaking at a nuclear security summit in Washington, D.C. Friday. Trump has said multiple times recently that he’d be open to Japan and South Korea developing nuclear weapons. He made the comments to the New York Times and CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

“They tell us that the person who made the statements doesn’t know much about foreign policy, or nuclear policy, or the Korean Peninsula or the world generally,” Obama said.

Trump also told CNN’s Anderson Cooper earlier this week he would withdraw American troops from Japan and South Korea. The countries should protect themselves from North Korea with their own nuclear weapons, he said.

“It’s only a question of time,” Trump told Anderson Cooper. “They’re going to start having them or we have to get rid of them entirely.”
